Southwest Florida insurance agent arrested on embezzlement charges

NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. —

Reid McDaniel of McDaniel Insurance Solutions in North Fort Myers was arrested for embezzlement and grand theft on Thursday.

Gregg Martin with Eagle Roofing and Restoration has been in the office next to McDaniel and expanded into both offices Thursday.

“It is surprising to us. So, we kind of heard some things going on and a little bit. But rumors are rumors until they're proven otherwise. You don't want to don't want to suspect anybody or basically charge anybody guilty until they've been proven that way. And unfortunately, it sounds like today that that kind of is going in that direction,” Martin said.

Martin said McDaniel is his insurance agent, so he’s trying to figure out his next steps for insurance.

“That's a lot of things that we've got to now figure out as I guess we're going to have to reach out to our carriers directly and find out what our options are, what our plans are. Are we staying with them or are they going to do something different with us? We don't know,” Martin said.

NBC2 reached out to the Florida Department of Financial Services but hasn’t heard back yet. McDaniel posted bond Friday afternoon.
